Overview

This summer school offers advanced training in fire dynamics modeling within the evolving performance-based fire safety framework adopted in many European countries. Building on the experience of the Forschungszentrum Jülich Summer School, it targets fire safety engineers and researchers already proficient with modeling tools, aiming to deepen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The program includes hands-on sessions using FDS, Python, and BlenderFDS, supported by cloudHPC. It also addresses validation methods and fosters interaction among participants and model developers.

The school is conducted in English and requires a Master’s degree and strong mathematical background.

Scientific committee

Due to high demand, the in-person participants will be selected by the scientific committee based on their previous professional experience and motivation.

The partecipants that will not be selected to attend the course in-person will be given the opportunity to follow the course online.

Registration and course fee

The candidates to in-person participation should complete the registration form with requested data about professional experience and motivation. The accepted in-person candidates are going to be notified by e-mail within 2 days of receipt.

Due to high demand, the in-person participants will be selected by the scientific committee based on their previous professional experience and motivation.

The number of in-person participants is limited. The course can be followed online with reduced lecture and social interaction.

We remind you that the online course consists of the transmission of the course held in the classroom. Since it is a webinar, online participants will carry out the same exercises as the participants in the classroom, but without direct comparison with the teachers. It will also be possible to ask questions only via chat with a tutor who will filter the requests.

A Few Words about

Accommodation Options

The course will take place in Padua, Congress Center “Giove” Hotel Galileo. We suggest finding accommodation in the city of Padua. Please find some hotel recommendations below:

Venue

Padua – Italy

Padua is a historic city known for its two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the world’s oldest Botanical Garden and Giotto’s 14th-century frescoes, including those in the Scrovegni Chapel. It hosts the University of Padua, founded in 1222, where Galileo and Copernicus once taught or studied. Galileo’s 1610 observation of Jupiter’s moons in Padua marked a key moment in the Copernican Revolution. Today, the university greatly influences the city’s cultural and economic life. Padua is also conveniently located just 30 minutes by train from Venice.
